A year ago, on April 13th, I landed in Srinagar on the auspicious day of Vaisakhi!
While driving to the houseboat, I passed by a Gurudwara Sahib which upon asking the driver was a historical one that I really wanted to visit.
As soon as I met my guide, I asked him that since people are still gathering, how about I visit the Gurudwara Sahib and meet them after? Especially since it wasn't on the Itinerary.
A few girls overheard our conversation and wanted to join. A few minutes later, a couple of guys from the tour group accompanied us too.
Next thing we know, we all hopped in one car and were now headed to Gurudwara Chatti Patashahi in Srinagar on the day of Vaisakhi!
I was newly back in the country. I didn't know anyone. I was also the only Sikh in the whole group. So in all honesty, I had no expectation from anyone to make any effort or even care.
All I was looking for was, a phone number to call a cab.
A few minutes later, I was at Gurudwara Sahib where the celebrations were in full swing. I had no idea, Srinagar was home to so many Sikhs.
I felt truly blessed that day.
Today on April 14th, as we all celebrate Vaisakhi, I hope and pray that it brings a fresh perspective towards your life as it did for me last year.
Happy Vaisakhi!
