"The Great British Bake Off" has been my comfort show this past month. It’s amazing to see folks from aged 18 to 80, across various cultures, come together in the white tent to bake!
What I truly enjoy noticing is how universal human emotions are.
I see a 19-year-old feeling "gutted" for coming last in the technical, while an 80-year-old feels absolutely "chuffed" for being crowned star baker.
It’s heartwarming to witness the sheer kindness with which everyone conducts themselves. They are all competing yet never hesitate to help each other.
A common theme among the few seasons I’ve watched so far is that at the end of their time in the tent, everyone makes two comments:
"I have made lifelong friends," and "I am really proud of myself."
These sentiments encapsulate what the human experience is all about. It is important to pause and reflect,
-Whether we enjoy what we do.
-Whether we give our 100% to it.
-Whether we feel nurtured, motivated, and accepted in our environment.
-Whether we are kind to ourself, and one another.
After all, at the end, all of these would eventually define our human experience.
P.S. An obvious byproduct of watching the show has been an increase in my visits to the nearby bakery. The trick is to eat your meal while you watch!
You’ll still go, but instead of a whole pastry, you might settle for a macaron!
I bought a fancy macaron the other day, and as Prue would say "it was not worth the calories :/"
