Zeenat Aman, the legendary actress, recently shared a beautiful note on the importance of older women in our lives on her Instagram account.
She then asked her followers to share their stories. I shared too, and she ended up reposting it!! (see photo)
When asked about the important women in our lives, we always start with family which is valid.
But why do we tend to forget the other older women who lifted us up? Sometimes lending their hand and sometimes even lifting us on their shoulders.
I wouldn't be anything if it wasn't for my mother.
But also,
My English teacher in 8th grade, who helped me get over my insecurity about speaking in English.
My high school principal, who taught me to live without fear, and dream as if the sky is the limit.
My first Asian boss, who taught me to remove my own internal biases before worrying about what the world thinks.
My boss, with whom I first shared I wanted to resign and take a break, for her belief in me and for saying “Don’t worry Mahima. A kid like you, you will be fine!”
Thank you to all these amazing women and many more who, knowingly or unknowingly, helped me in my journey.
Strong amazing older women, may we know them, and god willing one day, may we be them.
PS: My hands were shaking when I saw the Insta notification. It’s been 6 days and I can’t stop thinking that Zeenat Aman saw my story. It might be her social media manager or some intern reposting it. But ZEENAT AMAN, possibly reading my story, is a big deal.
